Seed cloud chandelier by Ochre

When I stopped by Ochre on our recent trip to Manhattan, I was stunned by the beauty of this chandelier.

About 100″ in height and only 32″ in diameter, this statement light fixture is not your standard size chandelier. In a standard room, it would almost touch the ground unless it was placed somewhere that spanned two stories (for example, from the ceiling of a two story home above a grand, open staircase). The stems are solid cast bronze, and they each house an LED-illuminated tempered glass drop.

I love when accent pieces only hint at a theme and don’t actually spell it out for you. I’ll never forget my english teacher from 10th grade always told me never to put ‘The End’ at the end of my stories/essays/etc. Why? Because it’s obvious that you’ve reached the end and there’s no need to spell it out for your reader. In fact, she felt that it was insulting to the reader’s intelligence. Somehow that has stuck with me over the years and has translated into my work, which is why I appreciate this piece so much. It doesn’t spell it out for you, yet the suggestion that the individual crystals are natural or even aquatic in nature is so strong that it’s easy to see fish, for example, when you look at it up close.

The lights reflect off of the crystals in the most gorgeous manner that you can’t help but stare at it for a while upon first glance. While it may be a pretty outrageous chandelier, I can see it fitting in so many different themes oddly enough–from coastal to ultra contemporary to eclectic to transitional.
